Costa Rica, a country smaller than West
Virginia, has more bird species than all of North America. Its species
and habitat diversity make it a world-class eco-tourism destination
and a bird watchers paradise.
Though Costa Rica covers only 0.03% of the planet’s surface, about
5.4% of the earth’s plant and animal species are found here. Among
them: 9,000 different kinds of flowering plants, including more than
2,000 species of orchids; nearly 876 species of birds; and 14,000
species of butterflies and moths and of course the white faced monkey!
